In 1642, Cornelius Dircksen, a local farmer, started the first ferry between Peck Slip in Manhattan and what is now the corner of Front and Fulton Street. Passengers would call Dircksen out of his fields with a horn to ferry them across the river.
No reservations required! First come, first served. Boating is a very popular activity, and the average wait time on a weekend is 1 hour. THE LINE WILL CLOSE AN HOUR AND A HALF BEFORE THE END OF THE SESSION (2:30pm on Saturdays). Latecomers will not be able to participate.
Children under 18 must have an adult guardian present. Children under 16 must paddle with an adult guardian.
Wear clothes you don't mind getting wet and protective shoes or sandals.
No training or prior experience is needed. The only requirement is basic swimming skills.
All equipment is provided. Life jackets must be worn at all times (minimum weight: 30 lbs). Please do not bring any personal gear.
Please note that there will be some variation in times due to tide conditions.
Kayaking and canoeing will be inside a protected cove. Rowing will be in a group rowboat with an experienced guide.
